About us

Our research group’s interests lie in the area of advanced geomechanics, considering complex problems involving thermal, hydraulic, mechanical and geo-chemical (THMG) couplings. Specific challenges include predicting long-term behavior of geo-materials under THMG extreme conditions associated with, e.g., the design of nuclear waste isolation; modeling the THMG behavior of gas hydrate sediments; understanding the degradation of geomaterials due to climate change; advancing the design of geological CO2 sequestration; and assisting energy production from existing and new sources. Our research interests also cover the study of the behavior of unsaturated soils, frozen soil and expansive clays My investigation is of a practical nature, being the main areas of the application of “Energy Geotechnics”’ and ‘Transportation Geotechnics.”.
